To the Children with Future Talents

Hello, I am Kagawa Ryo, a film director. I have been suffering from schizophrenia for 30 years, but after rehabilitation, I have overcome it and now work as an independent film director. My youth was devoted to rehabilitation. My companions, who tried to reintegrate into society from the hospital, fell one by one and disappeared from my surroundings. Driven by the desire to do something useful for people with mental and physical disabilities, I turned to art activities and film production. Click here Most of my life has been spent on rehabilitation, and now at the age of 67, I wish to use the remaining years to encourage fellow individuals with disabilities, as I have chosen to do so. This time, the project involves gathering paintings from children around the world. By envisioning the children facing difficulties worldwide, I have determined that it aligns with my aspiration to encourage people with disabilities. Children cannot choose their birth environment or parents. Whether they are born into affluent or challenging circumstances, I feel a strong desire to do something for these children. This project, to me, aligns with that intention. In Japan's Manyoshu (Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves), there is a poem by Yamabe no Akahito that says, "Silver, gold, jewels—none of these can compare to the treasure of a child. " It conveys the meaning that no matter how valuable material possessions may be, they cannot match the preciousness of a child. Children are treasures of the world. They are treasures of the world with boundless, unknown possibilities. We must not crush those possibilities based on the environment they are born into. I am working towards this purpose to reach out to the world. Message to the Children: "To the children. In the world, there are various challenging environments. We sincerely support the development and activities of the "World Children's Art Gallery," which ICO has been working in recent years.

The world is now facing difficulties including various Covid strains. We as adults, have the duty and responsibility to solve problems including education, environmental and economic disparity so the children who will lead the next generation can prosper. It is extremely important to create an inclusive place.

It is also important for children to draw, show, and interact with each other regardless of ethnicity, language or political system.

Like music, painting is a powerful non-verbal communication tool and is considered to be a means for anyone to participate. In addition, it is a powerful medium that connects parents and children, and it is very effective in uniting the divided world into one.

In the 17 agendas of the United Nations SDGs, there is the statement that "no one will be left behind", but it will only be possible if there is a place where anyone can participate.
This "World Children's Art Gallery", meets that criteria, and I strongly support future development.

It's unbelievable that I had a childhood of this magnitude, and they all have an unbelievable amount of love and innocence. Now that I'm super old, am I the only one who feels like I'm rejuvenated to see these children again...?

Paintings express the possibilities of the child’s heart. The sky could be pink, the ground could be blue, it’s all right no matter what color. Let children's thinking flow freely. Sometimes language doesn't communicate sufficiently, in which case the heart will do the job.

绘画可以表达孩子们的内心世界。天空可以是粉色的，大地可以是蓝色的，什么颜色都可以。让孩子们的思维自由的发散，如果语言无法交流，那就用心去感受吧。

I did a very large project, a fencing around a void, for the youth section of a library:

For Center Ceramique in Maastricht, Stang designed a fence of 64 meters long around a void about the history of Maastricht, from the Romans to his own inventions, rider on deer, st. Servaas, the Mosasaurus, ceramics, Napoleon, the angel of Maastricht, weird birds and snouts and much more. 44 panels, laser cut in white powder coated steel.

Client: Municipality of Maastricht, interior design: Kinkorn Tilburg, graphic design: Zuiderlicht Maastricht, illustrations: Stang Gubbels, laser cutting: Smolenaers construction, surface treatment: Hessels coatings, production: Kloosterboer Decor.

The Center Céramique is a multifunctional building in Maastricht in the Céramique district of the same name, located on the corner of Plein 1992 and Avenue Céramique. The building was designed by Jo Coenen and houses, among other things, the Maastricht city library and various exhibition spaces. The interior has recently been completely renovated at this time.
